Police in Chipata impound trucks laden with maize

POLICE in Chipata have intercepted and impounded two trucks laden with maize suspected to have been stolen from one of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) deport in the district. The two trucks belonging to a named transport firm were carrying a total of 600x 50 Kilogrammes bags of maize suspected to have been stolen from Alimi main depot in Chipata. And suspects have been detained in connection with the maize. The duo are drivers of the trucks to help the police with further investigations into the matter as the drivers were transporting the commodity without proper shipping documentations. Eastern Division Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the development in Chipata yesterday. “The incidences took place on Tuesday, the two trucks were impounded at one of the filling stations as they were about to refuel and destined to unknown place” she She said the intercepted two trucks were registration number ALC 5902 and trailer registration number ACM 201T including another one with registrations SA 4366 and trailer number SA 9827. A check at the Chipata Central police yesterday found the two impounded trucks still packed. Preliminary investigations have also revealed that one of suspects is alleged to have been posing as an FRA agent during the cartel. However, the regional commissioner could not give further details adding that the issue is still under investigations.
