Lobby for Chingola-Kitwe dual carriageway

NCHANGA UPND parliamentary losing candidate Lillian Sikaonga has called on the Kitwe and Chingola Members of Parliament to lobby for the quick construction of the Chingola-Kitwe dual carriageway. Ms Sikaonga said in an interview that the parliamentarians from both towns should work together to lobby for the construction of the long-awaited because it would make more impact. She said the Chingola-Kitwe Road had claimed a lot of lives because of the traffic accidents. Ms Sikaonga said the accidents and the congestion were precipitated now by the high mining activities in Chingola, Chililabombwe and North Western Province. Several efforts had been made towards the making of the Chingola-Kitwe dual carriage way for a long time and yet nothing has been done.
Ms Sikaonga said Zambians especially residents on the Copperbelt were eager to see the Chingola-Kitwe Road turned into a dual carriageway. She said the Government should also consider extending the dual carriage way dual carriage way to Chililabombwe as a way of decongesting that road as well. Ms Sikaonga said good roads were a plus to economic development because they made transportation of goods easier. She said insurance companies would also benefit from the quick construction of the proposed dual carriageway because they were currently losing lots of money through claims. Ms Sikaonga also congratulated the Nchanga Member of Parliament Wylbur Simuusa and President Michael Sata for the victory in this year’s general election. She said political parties should work on promoting women candidates to stand as parliamentarians in the 2016 general elections. Ms Sikaonga appealed to women to start fundraising for the next elections because elections was an expensive venture. She said there was sufficient time for some women to even go to school in an effort to upgrade their education and improve their profiles. “There is need of for the women to be empowered as representatives in Parliament because as they say nothing can be discussed about us, without us,” she said
