Chingola Roads; an eye sore

The road status in the district is appalling, an eyesore, and anathema to motorists, horrendous and if one is driving there is need of being constantly aware of obstacles which at times are huge potholes.
Roads have literally enthused from deterioration to none existence such that our progeny will fail to differentiate between a good road and a bush paths that exist in the village.
It is not a mockery on anyone that expectant mothers opt to walk than be driven on the Chingola roads that can lead to an embarrassment of delivering on the bus or experience premature delivery.
Motorists have complained of tyre-bursting, potholes, dusty, un-tarred streets, destruction of wheel alignments, roads accidents as traffic meander to find where to drive on, dirtying of pedestrians to the shortening of shocks’ life span.
Yet the district accounts for 65 percent of the total copper export, the largest open pit in Africa, safest underground in the world and the largest smelter in Africa.
One would think I’m exaggerating the situation on the ground, but goodness me let the people of Chingola respond to this if you are ready to accept their strong language.
We forget that roads are crucial for our economic system, and much of the donor money the country receives, fail to be channelled towards the roads to ensure our roads are in tip-top shape.
Roads lead to more money as there is a strong link between good roads and food security, between good roads and good medical system.
It is not glamorous, or headline-grabbing, but it's time we invested in good road infrastructure. The benefits will be many, and long-lasting.
Something ought to be done about the situation of roads in Chingola and it has to be now or else the vote seekers will fail to lure the electorates.
