Homosexuality Cited as Major Factor for HIV Rate in Zambian Prisons

Homosexuality has been cited as the driving factor in high HIV rate in Zambian prisons.
Adding to this sad episode is the high HIV prevalence rate in prisons which surpasses the national rate of 27 percent.
Zambia Prisons Service Commissioner, Percy Chato, made the disclosure during a media breakfast in Lusaka.
Mr Chato said that providing health care services to prisoners countrywide was challenging because the commission only had 28 health workers against one hospital and 17 clinics.
And Mr Chato has disclosed that a cellphone and other prohibited utensils were discovered in a cell accommodating condemned inmates from which three dangerous inmates escaped in February this year.
