Drogba still shocked by Zambia’s win

IVORY COAST skipper Didier Drogba says he is yet to believe that his side “gave away the Africa cup to some Zambian boys” during last Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final match in Gabon.

Drogba has been quoted in the Ivorian media as saying that he is saddened by his country’s defeat by the Chipolopolo boys. Drogba added that the defeat was shocking.

“It will take some time (for me to believe that we lost). I can’t still believe that we gave away the Africa cup to some Zambian boys,” said Drogba.

And the Chelsea star told The Sun (British newspaper) that although he was saddened by his team’s failure to bag the Africa Cup, he was happy with his fans’ reactions.

"I was sad we lost in the African Cup of Nations final but seeing all the people at the airport was special when you remember the situation here not so long ago,” said Drogba referring to the civil war that hit Ivory Coast last year.

When Drogba landed with the national squad in the Ivory Coast's largest city of Abidjan on Monday after losing the African Cup of Nations final to Zambia on penalties, tens of thousands of people lined the streets.

Drogba had missed a 70th-minute penalty which would have won them the competition but the West African country still hailed the captain and his team-mates as if they were the champions.

Drogba is so popular in Ivory Coast that if he ran to become president of that country, it is thought he would win by a landslide.
