Citizens for a Better Environment (CBE), executive director Peter Sinkamba has formed his own political party.
The new political party is called the ‘Green Party of Zambia’ whose leader had been a CEO of an environmental watchdog as well as served as national coordinator for the People’s Pact Forum.
 The formation of Green Party of Zambia comes barely few months after another political party; the Peoples’ Party was formed by Mike Mulongoti.
The country is waiting for the formation of yet another political party to be announced and be led by Father Frank Bwalya.
Announcing the formation in a statement in Kitwe yesterday, Green Party of Zambia president Peter Sinkamba said the new political party sought to bring ideology-based politics in Zambia.
Mr Sinkamba who gained popularity during the Konkola Copper Mines pollution of Kafue River feel he has what it takes to scoop the 2016 general election.
“Our aim is to enhance the effectiveness of the Zambian people in creating a green society by providing an evolving social-economic and political structure that embraces and supports green values.
“We offer ourselves as a voice of the masses in Zambia and for the broader global green movement worldwide,” Mr Sinkamba said.
He said the party pledge was to elevate and nurture caring and compassionate values among all people and all cultures, which would provide the basis for sustaining prosperous, just, democratic, peaceful and diverse communities in Zambia.
The party would commit its members, and encourage every Zambian to promote enhanced and socially engaged caring and compassionate values through research, dialogue, and exemplary conduct, as well as through increasing awareness of their own capacities to be caring and compassionate for others, themselves, and above all nature’s rich diversity.
Mr Sinkamba said the policies of Green Party of Zambia would be founded upon the principles of; ecological wisdom, social justice, participatory democracy, non-violence, sustainability and respect for diversity.
The party was earmarked for official launch on June 5, 2013, which is the day dedicated by the United Nations (UN) to commemorate the World Environment Day.
