Luanshya cop, found dead drunk at Roan police station

LUANSHYA Mayor Nathan Chanda has called on the Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani and her Provincial Commissioners of police to get rid of bad breed from the police service.
The mayor was reacting to an incidence in which he found a police officer, Boas Mwakapikisha drunk and fast asleep on the queries counter at Roan Police Station.
He told The Independent Observer that he had gone to the police station to report a suspected crime which had happened in the community.
“When I was coming from Mpatamatu on Saturday evening, I spotted a young man carrying a television set into a nearby bush. I told my driver to stop and we asked the young man to explain where he was taking the T.V.
 “The young man said he was taking the T.V to the sister’s place in section two BB Mpatamatu which so happened to be in the opposite direction, so I imposed a citizen’s arrest on him and took him to Roan Police Station because his story seemed to be fallacious.
“When we got to Roan police station, a mob of people had surrounded a corpse and in trying to find out what was going on, we discovered the sergeant on duty was drunk to the extent that he could neither speak nor recognize anyone,” he said.
Mr Chanda said Station Inspector Lukwesa who upon arrival five minutes later expressed distress at Sgt Mwakapikisha’s behaviour.
The Civic leader took it upon himself by personally took Sgt Mwakapikisha for an alcohol test at Roan Hospital.
The Mayor said he would not condone such kind of kind of behavior, the conduct he said retrogressive and endangering the security of the citizens.
The man alleged have stolen the T.V was arrested and is remanded in custody.
